About Ondansetron ODT
Ondansetron ODT (orally disintegrating tablet) is a prescription medication that may help prevent nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery. It belongs to a class of drugs known as serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonists. The serotonin 5-HT3 receptors are associated with activation of the vomiting reflex. Ondansetron may help block the action of serotonin on these receptors, which may assist with nausea and vomiting.[1]
Ondansetron ODT tablets are designed to dissolve quickly on the tongue without the need for water, making them a potential option for patients who have difficulty swallowing pills or are already experiencing nausea. The medication may be taken before the start of chemotherapy, radiation or surgery. It may also be taken on a scheduled basis for a few days after treatment, as directed by a healthcare provider.[2].
